Background & Brief Considerations
A portable cooking stove – PCS, that may be packed in its own case and has the ability to be in either gas-fuel or wood-fuel mode is of paramount importance for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers. This stove should only be used externally as it does not need to have a smoke stack. This versatile stove offers the flexibility needed to adapt to diverse camping environments and situations, providing a reliable means of preparing meals and staying warm. Its compact design ensures effortless transport, fitting snugly into a backpack or gear, while the option to use firewood not only promotes sustainability but also acts as a crucial backup when gas canisters run out or become inaccessible.

Moreover, this stove’s affordability and convenience make it an essential tool for those who seek cost-effective, eco-friendly, and enjoyable outdoor cooking experiences, ensuring that campers are well-prepared for any culinary challenge that nature throws their way. You are challenged to research, conceptualise and develop a ‘PCS’ with all of the following in mind (or any more relevant and practical considerations).

⦁ Outdoor use only.
⦁ The overall dimension of the PCS should not be larger than 35cm (L) by 25cm (Width or Depth) by 28cm (Height).
⦁ The stove when deployed should have foldable legs or as an attachment assembly.
⦁ When deployed, the underside of the stove should be safely above the ground but it should also be fairly stable without any possibility of it toppling over.
⦁ Dual Fuel Capability – The ability to use both propane or butane gas canisters as well as natural fuels like firewood or twigs i.e., through Interchangeable adapters for each fuel type should be considered.
⦁ Facilitate easy transport and storage – Ideally, it should fit inside a backpack or camping gear.
⦁ Sturdy Construction – Durable materials that can withstand outdoor conditions and regular use.
⦁ A stable and level cooking surface.
⦁ Include extended tray(s) or trays that can be attached to extend holding area for utensils.
⦁ Easy to Clean – Removable parts such as debris collection tray for easy cleaning.
⦁ A safe and easy to use ignition system when in gas-fuel mode.  Some child-safety should be considered as well.

Exploration in Design – Sketches
⦁ Keeping within 40 minutes*, show/develop your concepts with meaningful and clear sketches, by hand, without using any drawing software, allowing your design process to be understood and appreciated as much as possible.
⦁ Consideration for appropriate and appealing colour schemes should be evident.
⦁ Express your conceptual/developmental sketches within 1 OR 2 blank A4 sheets.
⦁ Analyse and show how your final choice of design has met the important consideration of Form and Function i.e., balancing Form and Function considerations.

⦁ Keeping around 150 words (spend about 15 minutes*), share your design rationale for your proposed solution in clear (legible) handwriting and an organised flow.
⦁ Help readers understand what were the inspiration(s) or consideration(s) for adopting the specific approaches or choices, resulting in the final design solution.
⦁ The organised design rationale should be presented on a single blank A4 paper sheet.
