Question 2

Imagine you are part of a university task force that has been assigned to address the needs of a local community facing significant changes due to a new development project. This project aims to build a luxury apartment complex, equipped with a shopping mall and other facilities. The new apartment and complex targets new families and seeks to boost economic growth but also raises concerns about displacement of long-time residents, many of whom are elderly over 65 years old. With the rising cost of living in Singapore and the elevated price of housing, the construction of this apartment has become a source of tension. In addition, it has also surfaced that if this new development project were to proceed, there would be some environmental implications.

a. From among the key stakeholders (e.g., the long-time residents, the city developers and the potential shop owners), choose TWO (2) stakeholder groups and write a reflective piece (not more than 500 words) from their perspective. Consider and discuss how their background, experiences, and values might shape their views on the project.

Your reflective piece must discuss the following questions:

i. What they think: Underlying beliefs or fears that they may have

ii. What they might do: Actions they might take in response to the development.

iii. What they feel: Emotional responses regarding the project (e.g., anxiety,
excitement, anger).
