ENG231 Assignment: Enhancing Security and Sustainable Development in Smart Cities
University | Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS) |
Subject | Engineering Ethics |
Answer all questions in this section.
Question 1
Define at least FOUR (4) operational challenges that the security services provider might be facing in absence of mobile surveillance solution in as-is situation, in the absence of MS Robots. Estimate the impact of those problems on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Propose a prioritization matrix/rubric to rank identifiedproblems from high to low in priority of importance. Provide a table with quantitative and qualitative reasons, a prioritization rubric, and description. (15 marks)
Improved Workflow Design (15 marks)
Answer all questions in this section.
Question 2
Design and describe the improved operational workflow to reduce the operational challenges highlighted in Question 1. Propose which SDGs can be achieved by addressing those challenges and map them against SDG#. Provide an improved workflow diagram, map SDGs on workflow, and describe in words briefly. (15 marks)
AIoT Solution Design (40 marks)
Answer all questions in this section.
Question 3
Recommend the potential technologies for each of the four stages of the MS Robots listed below.
I. Relevant data to be sensed at the deployment site, and how the data will be
sensed.
II. Connectivity infrastructure to transfer the data from devices/sensors to the next stages.
III. Computing infrastructure, data analytics layer to manage and analyse the data.
IV. Applications to analyse and visualise the data.
Depending on your prioritization matrix in Question 1 and the improved workflow in Question 2, you may select one or more challenges to address with MS Robots. Your solution should address at least one challenge identified. Provide a table with 1) contextual description and justification and 2) data-driven reasons for selection against each technical layer. (15 marks)
Question 4
Design the integrated FOUR (4) stages end-to-end solution using the technologies recommended in Question 3 to address the problems identified in Question 1 and improved workflow in Question 2. Plan for a scalable solution to address the multiple sites in a city. Provide a solution diagram with description. (15 marks)
Question 5
Appraise at least TWO (2) cyber vulnerabilities in your proposed solution. Appraise the cyber risks and recommend the risk mitigation in the proposed solution. Provide a table with description. (10 marks)
Business Model Re-Design (30 marks)
Answer all questions in this section.
Question 6
Propose how the Smart Solutions team can leverage the data and insights generated by your MS Robots solution to improve their operations in new ways and create value for customers. (Provide a description). (10 marks)
Question 7
Propose “cost-based” benefit matrix for your solution. Provide a table with relevant data-driven justification, and a description. List TWO (2) criteria. Provide a table with quantitative reasons. (10 marks)
Question 8
Propose “value-based” benefit matrix for your solution. Provide a table with relevant data- driven justification, and a description. List TWO (2) criteria. Provide a table with quantitative reasons. (10 marks)
Appendix:
Design and conceptualize an AIoT solution to address the following case:
Case Workflow: Citizen safety and security are the top priorities of any smart nation. Most smart nations around the globe have implemented fixed CCTVs at key public locations. However, the fixed surveillance infrastructure limits the possibilities of monitoring the blind spots and setting up quick and ad-hoc surveillance solutions as may be required in scenarios such as large gatherings, political, sports, and entertainment events. Smart Solutions Pte Ltd has to propose an end-to-end solution and identify the potential areas of operations where AIoT could help in achieving some of the UN sustainability development goals (UNSDGs) in this process.
Challenge:
The civil defense agency is looking to implement mobile surveillance robots (MS Robots) to identify bad actors among the public while capturing proof of wrongdoing. This solution shall notify the relevant authorities and individuals to take action. These surveillance robots must move in a self-navigating mode in facilities such as the Airport, Sports Center, and Expo and can navigate through lifts, access control systems, and corridors. Smart Solutions must build an AIoT-enabled, intelligent, interactive mobile surveillance robot solution.
Solution Requirements:
1. Able to identify suspicious individuals based on police watch list.
2. Analyze the abnormal and suspicious behaviors (such as fighting, running,
molesting)
3. Able to interact with facility systems and navigate through without guidance or human intervention.
4. Notify the nearest emergency or security responders.
5. Minimize human intervention once the solution is deployed.
6. Minimize maintenance and operational cost of the solution.
7. Reduce CAPEX investment in the solution.
8. Assure end to end security of the solution.
