• Pile shoe shall be of 5 mm thick mild steel plate to suit pile size.
• Joints shall be of mild steel box sleeve, 450 mm long x 3 mm thick to suit pile size.
• The estimated driven depth of the pile shall be 14.00 m deep.
• Load test shall be executed on one pile up to 1.5 times the working load of 45 tonnes.
• Piling works shall be measured as provisional quantities.

Question 3

With reference to Figures Q3.1and Q3.2, apply measurement techniques to take off quantities for the:
(a) Reinforced concrete columns including formwork and reinforcement.
(10 marks)

(b) Reinforced concrete beam including formwork and reinforcement.
(10 marks)

(c) Reinforced concrete suspended slab including formwork and reinforcement.
(10 marks)

• Bend allowance shall be 150 mm long. Hook allowance for links and stirrups shall be 24 times the diameter of the bar size.
• Slab reinforcement shall be in two layers of A10 fabric mesh weighing 6.16kg/m2

Question 4

With reference to Figure Q4.1 apply measurement techniques to take off quantities for the following works:
(a) One preliminary pile (8 marks)

(b) All working piles (12 marks)

Specification Notes for Question 4:

• One preliminary 200 mm diameter precast RC piles are to be measured
• All precast reinforced concrete shall be of grade 40
• The estimated driven depth of all piles is 22.50 m from the existing ground level
• Pile shoes shall be of cast iron weighing 25 kg to suit pile size
• All piles are to be cut at the required cut off level as specified and including cleaning, straightening and bending projecting reinforcement for incorporating into pile caps
• The ultimate maintained load test shall be up to four times the designed working load of 60t or to failure
• The working load test shall be executed on one 200 mm diameter pile up to 1.5 times the designed working 40t and one on 250 mm diameter pile up to 1.5 times the design working load of 60t
