COURSEWORK ASSESSMENT BRIEF

The Coursework Assessment is an individually graded assignment which will make up 100% of your final grade.
There are TWO (2) parts to this individual Coursework Assessment.
• Written Assignment (70%), and
• Oral Assessment (30%)

The breakdown of marks according to the TWO (2) parts and the components within each of
the TWO (2) parts are as follows:

Part 1: Written Assignment (70 Marks)

Structure, Organization, Grammar, and Adherence to APA Guidelines

Part 2: Oral Assessment (30 Marks)

  • Milestone Check – 10 marks
  • Question & Answer – 20 marks

Total – 100 marks

PART 1: WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT

You have just started a new job as a career coach in a consultancy company. As part of your probationary tasks before being confirmed as a full-time staff, your supervisor has assigned a new client, Richard, to you. Amongst the details provided was a psychometric assessment that Richard had completed. This is the HEXACO Personality Inventory-Revised (HEXACOPI-R), a 100-item personality inventory. As the assigned career coach, refer to “Annex A Client Richard’s HEXACO-Results-DO NOT CIRCULATE”, whose results are extracted from the assessment report.

Background Reading
• Read the attached article, titled “Annex B Psychometric Properties of the HEXACO100_DO NOT CIRCULATE”. You may use relevant information within the article to help you to answer the questions for the case study below. You will need to conduct further research to answer the questions.

Part A
• Based on Richard’s HEXACO-PI-R results, complete a writeup on his personality profile by including the following:
a1) Describe the theory that the tool is based on, and the approach adopted in the construction of the tool.
a2) Explain Richard’s scores based on the factor scales. If there is any use of normed scores, explain them in appropriate terms.
a3) Describe the norm group and discuss the usefulness of this norm group.

Part B
• Discuss the psychometric properties of the tool and whether you will use it for future career counselling and coaching. Include the following in your writeup:
b1) Evaluate the reliability of the tool by applying at least TWO (2) reliability
concepts/metrics.
– Is there a lack of evidence, presence of negative evidence, and/or presence
of positive evidence for the reliability of the tool?
b2) Evaluate the validity of the tool by applying at least TWO (2) validity
concepts/metrics.
– Is there a lack of evidence, presence of negative evidence, and/or presence
of positive evidence for the validity of the tool?
b3) Considering the evidence for the reliability and validity of the tool, evaluate its appropriateness for use in career counselling and coaching.
b4) State the qualification required to use the tool in a career counselling and coaching setting.
b5) Discuss how a personality inventory, such as HEXACO-PI-R, can be used in career counselling and coaching.

Part C
• Suggest ONE (1) other psychometric assessment that can be used in career
counselling and coaching, explain how it can be useful, and discuss at least TWO (2) pieces of evidence for its validity.

48 < t ≤ 72 hours 15% of the maximum score for the submitted work

PART 2: ORAL ASSESSMENT
Milestone Check
• This is a compulsory oral check-in with each student to understand the progress of the coursework.
• Each student will be allocated 5 minutes for check-in.
• No submission of written deliverables is required.
• During the Milestone Check, the following questions will be asked:
– What do the three columns of scores in the assessment results represent?
– Which reliability concept(s)/metric(s) do you intend to use to evaluate the tool stated in the case study assessment? Why?

Question & Answer (Q&A)
• This is a compulsory Q&A on the Written Assignment that each student will be submitting.
• Each student will be allocated 5-8 minutes for the Q&A.
• No submission of written deliverables is required.
• During the Q&A, the assessor(s) will clarify the approach taken to complete the Written Assignment.
